         Core Values

Mission
:

To educate students who will serve God and impact the world through biblical thought and action.

Core Values:

  • Rooted in Christ — Christianity is not rule keeping but a vibrant relationship with Christ - a life rooted in Him, nurtured by prayer, and governed by God's Word.
  • No Ordinary Students — Each student is a valued, unique image bearer of God.
  • Authentic Servanthood — God calls us to servant leadership characterized by transparency.
  • Raising the Bar — We will strive for continual individual and corporate improvement.
  • Parents as Partners — Faculty and staff support parents in the training and instruction of their children.
  • Teambuilding — Healthy relationships built on trust create effective teams.

Academic Excellence:

College acceptance: 96% of DC graduates go on to college; 46% attend competitive colleges as defined by Peterson’s Guides. Students in recent classes have attended Cornell, Penn, Richmond, Wake Forest, West Point, Wheaton and Yale, among other schools. About 40% of DC graduates choose to attend Christian colleges, some of which are defined as competitive colleges.

Standardized Test Scores:

  • SAT average for the class of 2006 is 1161, 131 points above the national average.
  • 10% of the Class of 2006 was recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (Commended, Semifinalist or Finalist)
  • Advanced Placement (AP). In May of 2002 DC administered 121 exams in eight different subject areas. 93% of the exams (113) earned college credit, vs. a national average of approximately 65%. Averages vary by subject area. Percentage of DC students earning credit:

Four of these eight courses are taught by faculty members with a Ph.D. Two thirds of the DC faculty have graduate degrees; the faculty averages 14 years of teaching experience.

Academic Achievement: No Ordinary Students

  • DC accepts students of average and above average ability. Students with learning disabilities can attend DC and receive support through the school's Discovery Center. Standardized test scores can be a reflection of entrance requirements more than academic rigor. DC believes that every student is gifted by God and every student can raise their own achievement bar. The school believes that the standardized testing results listed above are excellent in view of the school’s diverse student population.
  • Academic excellence is not the school’s only mission. The school exists to educate students who will serve God and impact the world through biblical thought and action.
