School Psychological Services

School Psychological Services offers a variety of individually-administered testing assessments for students having concerns with learning and behavioral issues. Services are provided by Linda Bonsall, a licensed and certified school psychologist, along with other trained DC educational therapists. Full psycho-educational assessments may include a review of the student’s school and developmental histories, behavioral observations, as well as evaluations of cognitive ability, perceptual abilities and academic achievement. An educational battery of tests is commonly recommended when a student is having specific learning difficulties. Cognitive evaluations are available along with other more specific evaluations based on the referral concerns. Evaluations for high school students, documenting diagnoses and school accommodations, may be conducted when seeking eligibility for support services in college. Testing fees vary depending on the tests given.

Test results and recommendations are communicated in a written report and are reviewed in a conference with parents and teachers. As appropriate, a 504 Plan or IEP may be written to address needs identified through testing. Testing may be referred by parents, classroom teachers, or principals. Referrals from students outside DC are also accepted. Miss Bonsall is also available for individual consultation about student concerns.
