High School Post Guidance Interview Questionnaire
DC urges students to pursue God’s purpose
for them to be faithful and wise stewards of their unique
talents. Guidance urges them to consider the kind of post
high school education that will best equip them to serve
Him through any vocation they choose to pursue. Post secondary
education can take the form of one-year, two-year, four-year,
or longer plans of education, the military, or apprenticeship
programs. Any of these may be wise tools for young men or
women to use to cultivate their talents to advance His Kingdom.
Even a "gap year" can be a formative tool in the
Lord's hands.
DC Guidance increasingly supports students
in their post-high school planning process beginning in 9th
grade. Counselors
introduce Freshmen to the concept of a transcript and its
use. Sophomores take the PSAT and do summer reading to
set them up for thinking biblically about college and career
planning. Juniors also take the PSAT and SAT, have individual
meetings with a counselor, and are part of the one semester,
14 hour, Career
Stewardship Seminar. Seniors have follow-up
meetings with a counselor to refine and bring their plans
to closure. All 9-12 students are oriented to several online
resources for college and scholarship searches, but counselors
work with all students to help them customize a wise plan
of faithfulness for their post high school experience.
Guidance asks Juniors to complete the Junior Autobiographical
Sketch (click here
to download this form) which is kept on
file in the Guidance office for teachers and guidance personnel
to use to write recommendations and to help them assess students
for various awards. Fill out this form on your computer and save the file. Then email the form to Mrs. Watson in the Guidance Office (cwatson@dccs.org).
