The
high school division of the Delaware County Christian School,
as an extension of the elementary and middle school divisions,
strives to meet the needs of the whole student in both theory
and in practice. Through extensive curricular, co-curricular
and extracurricular programs, the school seeks to effect
growth in students academically, spiritually, and physically.
Spiritual Growth
Daily Bible classes, weekly student-based chapels, annual
fall retreats, spiritual emphasis wee ks, and voluntary student-led
prayer sessions-all of these activities stimulate our high
school students to view life through the lens of Scripture.
In addition,
DC faculty consciously teach their respective disciplines--math,
science, literature, history, foreign language, fine arts,
or physical education--from a thoroughly biblical perspective.
Rather
than merely superimposing Bible verses on lessons, our instructors
seek to help students develop a Christian world view which
is capable of tracing God's hand in all academic pursuits
while
engaging non-Christian philosophies.
Academic Achievement
The high school curriculum includes a full complement of
academic subjects including Advanced Placement-level and
honors-level
courses. Numerous electives--including debate, creative writing,
yearbook, journalism and film--as well as a wealth of extracurricular
and co-curricular academic pursuits ranging from reading
and math clubs to Bible and academic quiz teams are featured.
Over
the past ten years, DC's graduating seniors (95% of whom
attend college) have distinguished themselves with SAT
scores well above
national averages (Class of 2007: 1123). Approximately 14%
have been recognized by the National Merit Scholarship
Foundation.
About 90% of the high school students take Advanced Placement
classes and earn college credit during high school. At the
same time, DC strives to meet the needs of academically
challenged
students within the school community through several intervention
programs, including a full-time Resource Room and several
therapists trained through the NILD (National Institute
of Learning Disabilities).
Athletic Accomplishments
In addition to the physical education and health classes
offered throughout the 9-12 curriculum, a wide range
of athletic opportunities
are made available to students at DC. Prior to last year,
DC was a member of Pennsylvania's
Keystone Athletic Conference,
the Knights
have
accumulated the greatest number of combined sports victories
in the KSAC for seventeen consecutive years. Beginning
with the 2002-03 school year, DC joined the Pennsylvania
Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA) and the
Southern Chester County League. DC coaches are quick
to reinforce the preeminence of Christian character
and sportsmanship
among their athletes.
The Arts
DC's outstanding fine arts program includes:
- Eighty-voice choir,
whose activities culminate in an annual five-day spring
tour

- High school band, whose performances include an
annual three-day spring tour
- Stellar overall music program,
highlighted by numerous appointments of participants
to various district,
regional, and state-level
bands, chorus, and orchestras
- Vocal and
instrumental ensembles, including handbells
- Visual arts
classes involving 60% of all high school students--several
of whom have received scholarships
from Moore College of
Art, Rhode Island School of Design, and Maryland
Institute of Art
- Multiple drama electives in
which students benefit from a new 550-seat, state-of-the-art
auditorium
as well as
an exclusive
instructional area for training; past theater
productions include
Oliver!, The Vigil, Meet Me in St. Louis,
Our Town, Annie Get Your Gun and Nicholas Nickleby.
Although the school is not a perfect
place, the grace of God allows us to share the beauty
of
corporate life within
the
body of Christ at Delaware County Christian
School. As part of this "body
life, " we share both the joys and
sorrows of life together as faculty and
students.
