Advanced Placement (AP)
DC offers AP courses in Biology, Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, English Language/Literature, English Literature/Composition, European History, German, Government/Politics (US), Physics B, Spanish, and US History, with more being added each year. More than half of each graduating class takes AP courses; approximately 80% of the 130-140 exams taken annually result in scores of 3, 4, or 5 - which qualify for college credit at most colleges and universities. For Calculus AB and Calculus BC, every student has earned credit for 10 years in a row; 80% earned the highest possible score (5). AP Scholars are students recognized by the College Board for outstanding achievement by earning strong scores on 3 or more exams. For the class of 2009, 20% of the class (18 students) earned AP Scholar recognition.
