Mrs. Carla Becker
For me art is seeing. When I look at and examine God’s creation, I see colors, patterns, textures, and geometric and free formed shapes, all intricately created and placed with divine wisdom. As a young child I enjoyed drawing and painting the things I saw, and it was here I found peace and joy. Later I studied art at Stratford College and Kutztown University, and eventually received my master’s degree from Kutztown University in Art Education. It was a wonder to me as I studied art that artists based their art theory on what God had originally set in place. I enjoy sharing with my students the “Elements and Principles” of art in unique, interesting, and enjoyable ways.
My family enjoys travel, hiking, sailing, and sports. When we travel I often find myself looking for new ways to see art and ways to create interesting lessons for my students. We have traveled throughout the USA, Europe, and India. I have been on three mission trips to Spain. This has given me a rich venue and viewpoint to share artworks with students. As a life- long learner I love to read and research artists and their styles. Learning is relaxing and enriching.
However art is not only seeing, it is also sharing. Artists throughout time have shared their stories, dreams, interests, and historical events, as well as social and political issues. Through art, students can also share their thoughts, dreams, and hopes for the future. It is a blessing to work alongside my students to broaden our view and express our visions in art at Delaware County Christian School.
