Mrs. Jeannie Leaman
A local girl, I grew up in Wayne, and was exposed early to all the Arts through various family members. By early childhood I knew that art was to be an important part of my life. AlI through my schooling I participated in music (singing) and visual art (painting) and finally got a BA in art education from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
I have been a painter and an art educator for over thirty years and have studied painting privately and at the University level for many years. Presently I paint in my home studio. My husband, Chris, a professional photographer, and I have lived in Malvern for many years where we built our home and raised our three sons. All three graduated from DC, were blessed to marry their DC girlfriends, and all have gone on to work in the arts professionally.
I love teaching art at DC: a place where God is freely admitted to be the Creator and Source of Life; a place where creativity is fostered and considered a God-given gift, and a place where the Arts are celebrated! I love ‘coaching’ middle school students: guiding their God-given creativity, adding some needed skills, and seeing them develop into people who see and think about the world more clearly and have the ability to depict and appreciate it.
Our family has been involved at Church of the Saviour, in Wayne, and we have enjoyed being a part of Sunday Schools, small groups, art shows and the music ministry. My hobbies include painting, music, reading, dog rescue, and gardening. My favorite book is ‘Peace like a River by Leif Engor. It combines a great story with a redemptive theme. Excellent!
