Tuition & Affording DC
The Value of a DC Education
At Delaware County Christian School, our goal is to offer the best education by preparing the whole student to make a meaningful impact on the world through Biblical thought and action.
We recognize affording a private, Christian education requires a significant investment for parents. Through our Variable Tuition program, we are able to make a DC education accessible to as many Christian families as possible.
No family pays the true cost of a DC education.
Variable Tuition is similar to many programs used by independent schools, colleges, and universities. This program is not a loan or grant but actually a reduction in tuition. Instead of paying a flat tuition rate, a family’s tuition falls within a range.
- Families with students entering full day pre-k through twelfth grade may opt to complete a confidential online application with an independent, third party administrator.
- This administrator determines a family’s need based on their individual financial profile and allows DC to educate your student at the tuition rate that is the best fit for your family.
- The amount of your family’s tuition reduction will be confirmed by DC’s Tuition Committee.

How does DC offer an affordable private Christian education?
We recognize affording a private, Christian education requires a significant investment for parents. Our goal is to make this education accessible to as many Christian families as possible. In fact, DC’s Annual Fund and endowment income covers approximately 15% of the total cost of our school’s operating expenses. That means that every DC student pays at most approximately 85% of their true educational cost – and many pay tuition that falls in a range from 50% upward to 85% of true educational costs. Our Variable Tuition program allows us to educate your student at the tuition rate that is the best fit for your family.
How does Variable Tuition Work?
Any family of a full day kindergarten through twelfth grade student may apply if they believe they qualify. Many factors are considered when determining a family’s tuition rate. These factors include income, assets, unusual expenses, and the size of the family. The total resources deemed available for the program in a given year must also be considered.
Families seeking initial enrollment at DC should note an application for Variable Tuition does not affect the admission process. Regardless of financial need, parents should initiate the admission process as early as possible to ensure availability in the desired grade level. Families may apply for Variable Tuition at any point during their admissions process. Likewise, any current school family may apply.
Should every new or current DC family submit an application for Variable Tuition?
Families who feel they cannot pay full tuition are encouraged to submit an application.
Do families need to apply for Variable Tuition every year?
Yes. A new application must be submitted every year.
If I do not qualify for Variable Tuition this year, can I apply again next year?
A family that does not qualify in a given year is welcome to reapply the following year.
What kind of economic situation is typical of a family who qualifies for variable tuition?
A wide range of families with a variety of circumstances can qualify for the program, from those who are able to pay close to full tuition to those who are able to contribute minimally. Many factors are evaluated, including income, assets, unusual expenses, as well as the size of the family.
Are some families offered full tuition?
No family is awarded full tuition. Every DC family is asked to make a financial investment in their child’s education. Our commitment in providing Variable Tuition means that we are sharing in that investment with you.
Can families receive an estimate on a Variable Tuition offer without actually applying?
It is not possible for a family or the school to estimate the tuition level for which a family qualifies without completion of a Variable Tuition application. Applications are submitted directly to FACTS, a third-party administrator. This administrator determines a family’s need based on their individual financial profile. This application must be completed in order to receive notification of a tuition reduction from DC’s Tuition Committee.
Are all admitted students given a Variable Tuition offer if their family qualifies?
Unfortunately, the school does not have the ability to offer Variable Tuition rates to every student who qualifies for both admission/re-enrollment and a reduction off the full price of tuition. We work within the available financial resources within a given year to make a DC education accessible to as many students as possible. A new student may be admitted to the school but placed on a waiting list for Variable Tuition.
Do returning students receive priority over new students when applying for Variable Tuition?
Returning DC students who submit an application by the published deadline will receive priority consideration.
Do I need to apply for admission separately from applying for Variable Tuition?
Yes. For new students, an application for admission to the school must be submitted to confirm any reduction in tuition.
Will applying for variable tuition hurt my student’s chance of being admitted to the school?
No. Admission applications and variable tuition applications are evaluated separately, and an application for Variable Tuition has no bearing on the admission process.
How does Variable Tuition differ for single parents?
The amount of tuition a family pays is based in part on the family’s ability to pay as demonstrated on the Variable Tuition application. Both custodial and non-custodial parents (regardless of legal settlements) who are divorced, separated, or have never married, may opt to submit a Variable Tuition application. In exceptional cases where one parent cannot comply, the custodial parent should submit a written explanation. Lack of information from either parent may significantly affect the Variable Tuition amount. There can only be one tuition contract per student. Therefore, it is up to the parents to agree which parent will complete online enrollment and the online tuition agreement.
