Program Overview
Following is a summary of the support and resources provided for each student in order to equip them for a successful transition out of high school.
Annual Meetings
Beginning in 8th grade, Academic Advisors initiate an annual conference with each student to discuss age-appropriate next steps for academic and future planning. Meetings are tailored to the unique desires, needs and concerns of each student and family.
Course Selection
The Academic & College Counseling department works closely with faculty to discern best-fit placement for students in each subject area. Families are encouraged to align academic plans holistically with students’ abilities, aspirations and extracurricular activities. Details about placement criteria for college preparatory, honors and advanced placement classes can be found in the Academic Handbook.
Seminar
Sophomores, Juniors and Seniors participate in a one-semester class each year, focusing on topics such as a Biblical view of future planning, social-emotional health, reflective journaling, strengths assessments, interviews, internships, extracurricular activities, college visits, resume-writing, choosing a major, college applications, scholarships and more!
College Essay Academy
Rising seniors attend a week-long summer workshop with a goal of completing three college essays. Admissions Reps from competitive colleges provide general guidance, while DC faculty work closely with students to offer instruction, suggestions and editorial assistance.
Internships

College Planning Nights
Families are invited to evening workshops on topics such as Finding your College Fit, Financing Higher Education, Special Admissions and more.
Admissions Representative Visits
Juniors and Seniors sign up to meet with college admissions professionals on campus during the school day to learn about colleges of interest, and to practice the questioning skills they learn in Seminar.
