What’s Unique About College Counseling at DC?
Key elements of our Christ-centered approach:
Joy
While college planning can feel daunting and stressful at times, we encourage students to embrace it as an exciting journey of exploring their interests and discovering God’s plan for their next steps.
Trust
We underscore the goodness and providence of God as it relates to students’ individuality, as well as their college prospects. We encourage students with the truth that the God who made them and loves them also plans their future. Proper perspectives on stewardship and God’s sovereignty can alleviate fear and make room for childlike faith.
Stewardship
God has endowed each of us with unique strengths, aptitudes, interests and experiences. We challenge students to invest their gifts wisely, emphasizing diligence and faithfulness over products and outcomes. We boldly assert that God is not displeased with imperfection.
Fit
While gaining admission at selective colleges is a worthy and respectable ambition, we urge students to make best “fit” a primary consideration. The college years are a season of extraordinary growth, when young people solidify not only their career path, but also their faith, convictions, personal habits and lifelong friendships. We encourage students to prioritize elements of the college environment that will be most conducive to their individual flourishing, rather than focusing exclusively on name recognition or other less personal criteria.
"My Bible classes made me truly examine my faith, question why I believe what I do, and how to truly express those beliefs to others (1 Peter 3:15-16). This influence on my education led me to study philosophy in undergraduate because I was passionate about understanding non-Christian perspectives and how best to lovingly and truthfully respond."
