Cheerleading Program Gains Momentum

The return of Varsity Cheerleaders to the gym has generated a great deal of excitement within the DC community. The 2022-23 season brought together a small but very mighty squad of five underclassmen who did not disappoint as they pumped up fans and cheered on the Varsity Boys Basketball team at home games. The Varsity Cheerleaders also competed in two competitions this year including the Carroll Cheer Competition hosted by Archbishop Carroll High School where the Knights scored above expectations and secured first place. They also competed alongside DC’s Middle School squad at the Garnet Valley Cheer Challenge.

This year’s Middle School cheerleading squad consisted of sixteen girls. “We were very excited to have such a large squad and this gives us great hope to see the program continue to grow,” remarks Coach Eisenhart. The Middle School squad also scored above expectations at their competition and secured a first-place win!

In addition to games and competitions, both the Varsity and Middle School squads hosted two cheer clinics for the Lower School Students where over thirty students from Kindergarten through fifth grade got a chance to be a cheerleader for the day and learn cheers, dance, jumps, and stunts!

The DC Athletic Department anticipates big plans for the future of the cheer program. Tryouts for the 2023-2024 season will be held this spring and both the Middle School and Varsity Cheerleaders will be attending the UCA Delco Cheerleading Camp this August. We are still looking for more cheerleaders to join our program!
