Girls Varsity Basketball Season Recap 2021-22

The Lady Knights build momentum and storm into the playoffs, reaching the PIAA District 1AA District Finals

Overall Record: 16-10
League Record: 7-6
Post-Season Record: 2-2
Key Victories:  Morrisville, Bristol, Sacred Heart (regular season)

Riding the momentum of a 4-0 finish to close out the 2020-21 season, the DC Knights Girls Basketball team came into this year's season expecting success. Having lost only one senior to graduation, the youthful, more experienced Knights were ready to put their newly gained experience to the test in the 56 Annual DC Tip-Off Tournament. The Knights showed well, losing an opening round thriller against TCA by only two points and defeated Atlantic Christian by 8 pts on day 2 of the tournament. The team battled injuries and COVID quarantines throughout the course of the season, but hit their stride late, going 7-1 in its last 8 games and headed into the playoffs on fire.

The Knights started the post-season with an opening round BAL tournament victory against Philmont, defeating them soundly 51-32. The victory came at a great cost however, as junior starting guard Sarah Stahl injured her ankle late in the game and would miss the remainder of the playoffs. The Knights lost their second round game of the BAL tournament to Faith Christian, 54-29.

The Knights entered the District 1AA tournament as its top seed and showed it belonged, defeating Bristol in a game that was never really close, 45-29. The victory earned DC its first trip to the district finals since 2018, where they would face rival Sacred Heart for the second time this year. The Knights defeated Sacred Heart in that first game, winning handily 38-18.

In the district title game, DC fought valiantly but could not overcome a Sacred Heart squad that had more championship game experience, and who were buoyed by the return of senior forward Kathryn Gallagher. Sacred Heart defeated the Knights 49-32, and won their sixth straight district title.
