Hello DC Alumni,
I hope everyone enjoyed the warm summer months. Did I say warm? I meant steamy and hot! The heat waves in the last few months here in PA were unprecedented. However, we are now truly appreciating the beautiful weather God is sending us for the beginning of the new school year.
We have had a good start to the year here at DC. We have 130 new students this year and a total of 76 students enrolled at DC whose parents are alumni of the school. It's great seeing the next generation on campus.
To keep you informed, there are now a few changes on campus. This will be the first year the high school students will have a J-Term which will fall the first two weeks following Christmas break. Students in grades 9-12 can choose from a wide range of course offerings, educational and missions trips (local, national, and overseas), and internships with local companies (for Juniors and Seniors). J-Term provides a distinctive educational, hands-on experience with in-depth, experiential learning in a particular area of interest. What a great opportunity for these students to “experiment” in an area where they may find their gifting.
On the athletic front, this is the first year of Varsity football! With head coach Jim Favino and a strong assistant coaching staff, the 2010 theme is “We Is The Key” with I Corinthians 12:18-20 as their focus. "But in fact God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as he wanted them to be. If they were all one part, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, but one body." The team’s home site is Marple Newtown HS. Come out and support the team!
The main event this year is Homecoming Weekend 2010, October 22-23. The events will include a social dinner party on Friday night at Drexelbrook from 7-11 pm and on Saturday, the Alumni vs. Students Flag Football game at 11 am (sign in at the Alumni Tent) and field hockey and soccer games in the afternoon with activities for the kids. The Varsity football game starts at 7 pm at Marple Newtown High School.
On Friday night, all alumni classes are invited to this fun social and will be seated together. Several classes are already planning to attend together. The evening includes: dinner, dessert, beverages, and DJ. The cost is $35/person. Don’t miss the fun! To RSVP, online reservations are available at www.dccs.org/social. Don’t wait to respond! This event will fill up and we want you there!
God bless your year ahead. I want to encourage you to stay connected with each other and with the school. Please email me your updated contact information, any personal accomplishments or news you’d like to share with the DC family. Also, please keep DC in your prayers. We are in the middle of a challenging campaign and we must reach the goal of 35%% alumni participation to qualify for this grant. A postcard was mailed out to you this past June explaining the 3-year campaign. Calls to the alumni classes will be happening soon. Consider making an investment in DC’s future and participating if you are able. Gifts can be made online at dccs.org/give.
I hope to see you all at the DC social next month! Come introduce yourself if we haven’t met.
In His service,
Kim O’Bryan ‘89
