March 2020
![]() March 12 is Alumni Give Day 2020! This is the one time each year when we ask our alumni to support DC financially. Between now and March 12 we need 175 new alumni donors. Gifts of all sizes matter because your participation makes a big impact on our school. Throughout the day on March 12 we'll be sharing updates on this 175 donor goal via email blast, Facebook posts, and on our Instagram page. Please consider giving today.
Already 93% of our faculty and staff have given this year. Let's show them some alumni support by reaching our goal of 175 additional alumni donors. Consider giving in honor of your graduation year, for example $19.67=Class of 1967.
You can give online at dccs.org/give or mail your check to DCCS, 462 Malin Road, c/o Alumni Office, Newtown Square, PA 19073.
We also have a Challenge Gift from an alumni donor and will be providing updates throughout the day on March 12th, on meeting our targets to unlock the full value of this gift.
Many thanks to all of you who have already given this year. All the ways you support our school throughout the year mean so much. Please keep praying for DC!
Alumnus of the Year ![]() ![]() ![]() Congratulations to our Alumnus of the Year 2020, Bruce Calderwood '67!
Bruce has certainly been busy living out DC's mission to serve God and impact the world through biblical thought and action. He began this journey as a teacher with his first teaching position at a school in Richmond, Indiana working with underprivileged students. He continued coaching and teaching until 1979 when he joined the staff at the Detroit City Rescue Mission Ministries. This mission is one of the oldest and largest rescue missions in the United States. Over this 40 year career Bruce has held a number of roles with the Mission. One of the many which impacted youth was his role with Wildwood Ranch, a camp ministry of the Rescue Mission that serves kids and teens from Detroit and Flint, Michigan.
In addition to his role at the Rescue Mission, Bruce has been heavily involved in non-profit leadership and church ministry in the Detroit metro area. He currently serves as Chairman of the Board at Motown Soup, a nonprofit organization that donates proceeds from its products to soup kitchens, homeless shelters, food banks, and clinics in the metro area. He is also actively involved with his church.
On top of all this, Bruce and his wife Sue made the time to raise a family of their own. They are the proud parents of Becky (Calderwood) Toly and Dan Calderwood and grandparents to five grandchildren.
Bruce will be visiting with us on the DC campus on Friday April 17 and will also speak with students. Later that evening he'll join us at the Annual Fund Dinner and Benefit (more details coming soon). I hope you can join us.
