This year DC welcomes back to the Fine Arts team Jeannie Leaman and Mandy Limpert who have been with us previously and have returned to DC.
Jeannie Leaman is teaching Middle School Art and enjoying her time back in the classroom with all the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Along with being an accomplished painter, she is also working in graphic design in the Advancement Office. She previously taught at DC from 1994 to 2008. All three of Jeannie's boys have graduated from DC and are all involved professionally in the arts. Her husband, Chris, is a professional photographer.
Mandy Limpert is teaching Middle School Band, High School Band and giving lessons at both the Middle and Elementary schools. She enjoys helping students find out that music only begins when they read and play the right notes. She previously taught at DC from from 1995-2010. She is the mother of Steve, a professional trumpeter and electrical engineering doctoral student, and Sharon, a theatre major already doing professional work in costume technology. |Alumni Contest Winner |
Josh Lake ’96 entered the “Hubble’s Hidden Treasures” contest sponsored by the European Space Agency’s Hubble headquarters in Garching, Germany. Josh was the top winner in the image-processing category, as well as the “People’s Choice” competition where nearly 3,000 photo submissions were received. He “submitted a stunning image of NGC 1763, part of the N11 star-forming region in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Josh took a different approach, producing a bold two-color image that contrasts the light from glowing hydrogen and nitrogen. The image is not in natural colors – hydrogen and nitrogen produce almost indistinguishable shades of red light that our eyes would struggle to tell apart – but Josh‘s processing separates them out into blue and red, dramatically highlighting the structure of the region. As well as narrowly topping the jury’s vote, Josh Lake also won the public vote." (Alan Boyle/cosmiclog). Josh is a physics and astronomy teacher (and volleyball coach) at Pomfret School in Connecticut.
