Campus News

This year DC welcomes back to the Fine Arts team Jeannie Leaman and Mandy Limpert who have been with us previously and have returned to DC.

Jeannie Leaman is teaching Middle School Art and enjoying her time back in the classroom with all the 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Along with being an accomplished painter, she is also working in graphic design in the Advancement Office. She previously taught at DC from 1994 to 2008. All three of Jeannie's boys have graduated from DC and are all involved professionally in the arts. Her husband, Chris, is a professional photographer.

Mandy Limpert is teaching Middle School Band, High School Band and giving lessons at both the Middle and Elementary schools. She enjoys helping students find out that music only begins when they read and play the right notes. She previously taught at DC from from 1995-2010. She is the mother of Steve, a professional trumpeter and electrical engineering doctoral student, and Sharon, a theatre major already doing professional work in costume technology. She is married to family physician George Limpert, who remains the number one fan of instrumental music at DC.

November 2012

Greetings Alumni ~

As we head into the Thanksgiving season, it's hard to believe how quickly the fall is flying us by. We hope to see you back on campus for our All-School Thanksgiving and Christmas Chapels. These dates are November 20th and December 21st at 8:30 am.

A new addition to the DC website is the Online Business Directory. Check out the listing of DC alumni and parent owned businesses at www.dccs.org/businessdirectory. If you are an alumnus who owns a business and would like to be included in this free online directory, fill out the form found on the left column of the directory page under "DC Life" tab.

This year add memories of DC to your Christmas tree. Beautiful hand-painted glass ornaments featuring Lowrie Hall are available for purchase now. Cost $15 each. Order online at www.dccs.org/gifts or available at the all-school chapels.

We love to keep in touch with our alumni so please send in your alumni news or your updated contact information by  filling out an Alumni Update Form on the DC website (www.dccs.org) or emailing me at kobryan@dccs.org.

God bless you and your family in this season of Thanksgiving. As the school keeps all of our alumni in prayer, we ask you to please continue to lift DC in your prayers.

Upcoming Alumni Event

DC Alumni Coffeehouse

Friday, January 18, 2013 @ 7:30 pm

Join us for the DC Alumni Coffeehouse at Burlap and Bean on Friday, January 18th, 2013 at 7:30 pm. We will be having Justin King '99 and Brad Almond '99 perform onstage along with a select number of talented current students. If you would like to perform a song on stage, please contact me. Last year was an amazing night and we look forward to another fabulous coffeehouse evening.

Alumni Contest Winner

Josh Lake ’96 entered the “Hubble’s Hidden Treasures” contest sponsored by the European Space Agency’s Hubble headquarters in Garching, Germany. Josh was the top winner in the image-processing category, as well as the “People’s Choice” competition where nearly 3,000 photo submissions were received. He “submitted a stunning image of NGC 1763, part of the N11 star-forming region in the Large Magellanic Cloud. Josh took a different approach, producing a bold two-color image that contrasts the light from glowing hydrogen and nitrogen. The image is not in natural colors – hydrogen and nitrogen produce almost indistinguishable shades of red light that our eyes would struggle to tell apart – but Josh‘s processing separates them out into blue and red, dramatically highlighting the structure of the region. As well as narrowly topping the jury’s vote, Josh Lake also won the public vote." (Alan Boyle/cosmiclog). Josh is a physics and astronomy teacher (and volleyball coach) at Pomfret School in Connecticut.

Alumni in the Arts
Bekah Wachenfeld '06 was heavily involved in the Arts at DC. She found herself in lead roles in high school productions but also found a passion for stage management. She went on to graduate from James Madison University with a B.A. in Theatre & Dance Production. After graduating, she worked a year at The Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia as an Assistant Stage Manager. She then began freelancing as a stage manager across the nation. She has had the privilege to work at theaters such as Weston Playhouse (VT); Lark Play Development Center, Second Stage, Primary Stages (NYC); Theatre J, Adventure Theatre, Forum Theatre (DC) among others. She is currently a Guest Stage Manager at Ramapo College of NJ mentoring students and stage managing Tony Kushner's A Bright Room Called Day. She will then head to Washington, DC to Stage Manage “An Iliad” on the main stage at The Studio Theatre.

Bekah has won national awards. The highest of these is a first place recognition in 2010 for the USITT National Clearcom Stage Manager of the year award. It is the highest student stage manager honor in the nation, and she was an undergraduate! She was invited to the annual conference where she was presented with the award.
