2024 All-School Christmas Chapel Recap

By Sam Dixon ’25, Communications Prefect

This year, DC’s annual All-School Christmas Chapel was held on Friday, December 20, ringing in the holiday season on the final day of school before the break. After a lovely prelude, performed by senior Annika Callan on piano, Head of Upper School, Mark Dixon, delivered a heartfelt welcome and prayer. Next, the 7th and 8th grade choir delivered a beautiful rendition of O Come All Ye Faithful, followed by worship in song by the entire school community. Afterward, the 5th Grade Choir proudly sang Celtic Gloria, and Head Prefect, Kate Latchford, delivered the Christmas scripture reading of Luke 2.

Former faculty member and now-pastor Warren Boettcher ’77 gave the chapel message. Boettcher shared meaningful reflections on his time at DC, and applications of lessons he’s learned during the Advent season. In response, Middle School Bible Teacher, Chuck Young, led the school in a rousing version of Angels We Have Heard On High. This is Young’s final chapel leading worship before he retires at the end of this school year. The conclusion of the song was met with thunderous applause from the students, faculty and staff, alumni, and parents in attendance.

The Upper School Concert Choir then gave a beautiful performance of the song, Sleep Well, and the Knight Tones performed the upbeat Emmanuel, You Are Worthy, including a wonderful solo performance by sophomore vocalist Ruby Jones, with Editus Addy on drums. Mr. Adam Sacks delivered a closing prayer and benediction for the ceremony and the Jazzy Knights delivered a peppy postlude.
