DC’s Trivia Night Winners Upset Reigning Champs

On Saturday, January 25, DC’s volunteer trivia planning committee hosted its annual trivia night event. This year's event was sponsored by COCOON and took place from 5:30-9:15 pm at the Saint Luke Community Center. This tradition is a fun way to bring the DC community together for a game night with some friendly competition and has had very positive reviews since its start in 2022.
DC families and friends who attended were broken up into 31 teams of 8, and challenged with various questions such as: “Can you name the classic television show from just a photo of the show's living room?” and “Sink or Float: does an avocado float?” The most unique round, however, was a tribute to DC’s 75th anniversary. Each table was given a blank poster of the United States and was asked to label every state within 75 seconds. Next, the teams had an additional 75 seconds to label every state capital.
“I keep the event balanced with a few rounds of movies, TV shows, music, and general trivia. Most of the content is based on pop culture from the 80s-2000s, which yields very entertaining results from the crowd,” said DJ Horton ’02, organizer of the event. “One or two rounds are completed in a written format, and the rest are video-based.” This is the only video-based live trivia in the Philadelphia area which makes it even more special.
Towards the end of the night, the top three teams played the final question round where they could wager points. For the past two years, the winning team was “Moms, Dads, and Chad,” but this year’s event was won by "A Danke Schoen Away." Team members included: Luke and Rachel Menser, Matt and Katie Ricardo, Doug and Katie Staffelbach, and Elliot and Victoria Shelita.
Redeeming themselves from their one-point loss last year, each member of “A Danke Schoen Away” received a trophy for their win, and their team name was added to the annual winners trophy on the upper campus. They also received a complimentary table at next year’s trivia event.
“The goal of the event is to be more of a friend-raiser: a fun night that brings the DC parent community and their friends together while still raising some money for the school,” said Horton.
