Senior Danielle Strafford Receives National Art Award

Danielle Strafford works on Senior Danielle Strafford is a gold medal winner in the 2018 Scholastic Art and Writing Awards National Medal Competition sponsored by the Alliance for Young Artists and Writers. Danielle received this distinction for her sculpture submission “John the Baptist.”

Danielle’s work was selected from nearly 350,000 works of art and writing submitted for this year’s competition, placing her medal distinction in the top 1% of all submissions. Since 1923, the Awards have recognized creative students from across the country. Previous winners include celebrated authors and artists including Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Robert Redford, Joyce Carol Oates, and the recipient of this year’s Alumni Achievement Award, Marc Brown.

Danielle will receive her award at the 2018 National Ceremony at Carnegie Hall in New York City on Thursday, June 7, where her winning submission is currently on display.
