Although the Knights' squad missed just one question en route to accumulating an impressive 29 first-half points, the Tigers were very much their equals, trailing by just one point at the intermission. Upper Darby, the third team on stage, tallied a respectable 16 points by the half; however, both DC and Marple picked up four bonus points apiece during the meet, many at the expense of the trailing Royals.
During the second half, the Knights continued to spar with the Tigers, never attaining more than a four-point lead. In fact, leading up to the final question, DC held just a three-point lead with both a math question and potential victory hanging in the balance. Reminiscent of last year's dramatic regular-season and playoff victories over Marple Newtown, the Knights beat their foes to the buzzer, capturing both the final math question and the victory.
Currently, DC's 52-point performance places them in first place, pending four additional first-round meets in December. DC’s team will play its second meet on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at Monsignor Bonner and Archbishop Pendergast High School versus the hosts and Ridley High School.
This year's team consists of seniors Ethan Cai, John Cai, Caleb Chung, Aj Gerow, and Hannah Master; junior Rachel Yeung; sophomores Hannah Gifford, Yewon Jeong, and Peter Yeung; and freshmen Sam Master and Reed Roberts. The squad is coached by Mr. Thom Houghton, now in his twentieth season.
