Knights are for Reading
Posted 02/25/2019 08:53AM
DC’s Lower School Read-a-thon is an annual highlight for our younger learners. This year, lower school students participated in “Knights are for Reading” – a medieval themed program that played off of DC’s school mascot and focused on life during the Middle Ages. As students worked to reach personal and a school-wide collective word count goal of 43,000,000 million words, they strengthened fluency and comprehension skills and grew in their love of reading.

Over the course of the month, students read an impressive 50,135,011 words! The Read-a-thon concluded with a school wide day of celebration that included activities and games centered on this year’s theme. Lower School Head Joy Ludwig notes “We know that to become a better reader, one has to practice. This concentrated time of reading is often just the motivation students need to grow in their reading fluency, and comprehension on their path to become lifelong readers. Ultimately, we desire for students to read well so they can open God’s Word and grow in their young faith.”

Congratulations lower school students and keep reading!
