DC Theatre Program Shines at Annual Cappies Gala Awards Night
Posted 05/20/2019 01:16PM

It was an evening to shine for DC’s Theatre Program at 2019 Cappies Gala Awards Ceremony held May 19 at Unionville High School. The cast and crew of the school’s recent production of Hello, Dolly! entered the evening’s event with an impressive eight nominations. At the close of the gala, DC received three awards including Best Female Vocalist, Best Set, and Best Stage Crew. This was a fantastic showing for DC as the highly competitive field of nominees includes a total of thirty three public and independent schools from the Greater Philadelphia Area.

Senior Jordan Thompson was named Best Female Vocalist for her performance of Dolly Levi. This award was a three-peat for Jordan who was received this honor for the third year running. In 2017, she was recognized for her role as Ursala in The Little Mermaid and again in 2018 for her role as Marmee in Little Women.

DC’s Stage and Tech crew were also repeat nominees in 2019. Technical Director Mr. Ric Elliott has a dedicated group of students who commit annually to work behind the scenes and their strong work ethic and attention to detail contribute greatly to the overall success of DC’s productions. It was wonderful to see this group’s efforts be rewarded this year.

Hello, Dolly! was produced and directed by third year Theatre teacher Mrs. Molly Courtright. She notes that each member of the ensemble, from cast to tech crew, Red Team, and orchestra worked hard to bring this classic Broadway show to life on the DC stage. From the start, the goal and prayer of the cast and crew was for the audience to recognize that like the characters in Hello, Dolly!, our lives may not go as planned, with plot twists and curveballs we do not anticipate. So often, we try to control our own lives, to make our own stories, when in reality; our stories have already been written by the greatest storyteller and artist of all time. The blessing comes when we participate in the story of making disciples, of proclaiming the name of Christ, and being a light to a broken world.

Congratulations Cast and Crew for shining brightly and for honoring God with your gifts and talents!
