Health and Safety
General Information
The staff of DC Summer Programs is fully committed to the health and safety of your child both physically and emotionally during their time with us. We employ a registered nurse to be on camp at all times throughout the summer. This person manages all camper health forms and allergy concerns, relaying necessary information to other staff members and monitoring campers closely throughout each day. Our camp nurse is not tied to a specific schedule during the camp day to ensure availability to handle any situation that may arise in a timely manner.
Authorization for Dispensing Medication Form
As an important part of training, all staff members are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to help campers have a fun and safe summer, including how to care for campers who need special attention for a variety of reasons.
Sunscreen Information
Although you are attending summer camp, since it is run by a school, the requirements of Pennsylvania School Code, Section 1414.10 concerning sunscreen do apply. This code requires that parents sign a self application waiver in order for their child to carry and apply their own sunscreen at camp. These waivers are now signed in the process of filling out the camper health form. Sunscreen can be on any SPF rating, but must be FDA approved (you should not have an issue with common brands) and must be non-aerosol.

Discover Day Camp (ages 3-5) Potty Training Policy
DC Summer Programs requires all campers to be fully potty trained in order to attend camp.
A potty trained child can do the following:
1. Wear underwear and not diapers or pullups every day
2. Avoids having daily and weekly accidents
3. Communicates to staff members their need to go to the restroom and can wait for their turn
4. Alerts themselves to stop what they are doing to go and use the bathroom
5. Pulls down their clothes and get them back up without assistance
6. Wipes themselves after using the toilet
7. Gets on and off the toilet independently
8. Can wash and dry hands
9. Will awaken during rest time should he/she need to use the restroom
There are strict licensing standards and regulations for changing and disposing of wet or soiled diapers. Our summer camp program does not possess these licenses and as a result can not legally accommodate for the care of children who are not fully potty trained.
When an adult is needed to change a child’s soiled clothing regularly, their attention is taken away from all other campers and it removes one adult from the direct supervision of and interaction with the rest of the group, which causes us to be outside of the required ratios.
We do understand that even potty trained children will occasionally have toileting accidents. In these instances, trained camp staff will gladly help children to change their clothes, and encourage independence as much as possible.
